MY STORY

My story begins like many others in New Mexico. My passion began with a revelation.

The flames illuminated the smoke that rose into a background of black sky, filled with the bright eddies of the Milky Way. The sweet smell of burning pinon wood filled the air and was occasionally speckled with embers and the crackling of wood. Between myself and an infinity beyond the darkened horizon stood the old house. My ancestors had built it, but time had ruined it. Its collapsed roof and splintered walls screened a portion of the stars from my view. Tiny dots painted the ebb of flow of the galaxy like a Georges Seurat painting. The juxtaposition of the house against the stars seemed to make the skeletonize cells of the wood grains visible in the firelight. 

And then, that’s when I realized the essence of creation that is born in this land. As stars are born in the dust and die, their bones creating new stars and planets of which our modest lives took root. From these dry lands, trees grew on the slopes of the New Mexico mountain sides. Mighty Ponderosa or gnarling Pinons were cut down by the frontiersman and built homes, barns, fences, and orchards from which a family is born. His ancestor reclaims the remnants of these ruined homes, farms, and orchards created by his forefathers to create with it. This is the legacy found in each of my pieces. A legacy born of the stars, forged in the harsh New Mexico lands, and gifted to the generations.
